For my eighteenth birthday, I inherited $200,000 in debt.
We’ve been preparing our whole lives for when we’d receive information on our pasts selves. Adults tried to temper our expectations, but everyone dreamed about having been someone interesting anyway.
Some people were what they’d hoped: brilliant scientists, famous politicians, or beloved movie stars. Authors are able to take over their estate; actors gain the rights to their previous visages.
All I got was debt. Apparently, I’d been chronically ill in my last life, and I’d be haunted by it in this one and likely the next and next as well.
