I felt woozy.

A speaker filled the white room with rapturous applause. A wide-eyed camera stared at me, unblinking.

I looked down at myself. Hands, feet, chest. All there. Good.

The room was identical to the one I’d just teleported from. To my mind, nothing had happened at all. In a split second, history had been made. The scientists’ applause rang through my ears.

Soon, it slowed, before stopping altogether. Silence.

“Can you let me out now?” I asked.

Someone screamed.

The pain hadn’t caught up with me yet.

Blood was pooling at my feet. My skin was falling off.
